Birthdays are special occasions and I think they require sweets! Namely a cake. Usually I don’t make cake. I stick with cupcakes and brownies…both always go over well. (It must be the extra love I put in them!) This weekend though, I stepped outside the box. I made a cake, rice krispy treats and of course, cupcakes.
So simple, but oh so yummy! They were a hit! I think this maybe become a new get-together staple

I must admit, I “borrowed” this idea from something I saw online because the birthday boy was so excited to see “Watchmen”! The smile face with dripping blood is the logo of the movie / graphic novel. Everyone went nuts for them. Even doing their OWN phone-photo-shoots with them:

Camera Phone Photo! My friends are great actors AND they know great art when they see it!

My first layer cake! You’ll just have to trust me that there really is a layer in there. I forgot to take a photo of the inside!

The scary result of lots of baking! I wish I had a dishwasher…
Made a batch of cupcakes for the occasion. My new obsession. I make them right out of the box, but everyone seems to go crazy when I make them. Maybe its the extra “love” I put in? This particular time, I used apple sauce to replace the oil and still got rave reviews. Does that mean they are healthy?

A friend asked me if I had ever heard of “Tilt Shift” photography. I hadn’t, so I did a little research and thought it might be fun to try. In order to do it for “real”, you need a special lens attachment. You can also get a similar, yet not perfect look using photo shop. Tilt Shift makes things look like they are miniature. How fun! I had fun trying it out! Whaddya think? Send me a comment!

Miniature for a new summer blockbuster? Nope, this is the real thing taken from the top of the Empire State building.

Fake buildings? Nope, just trickery! Florence, Italy.

Teeny tiny bikes? Taken in Italy.

This one isn’t perfect, but still is fun! Taken in Venice, Italy.
While I normally shoot in a studio setting, Jen wanted her pictures taken at the beach. We decided to use her stomping grounds, Ocean Beach, CA, for our backdrop. And what a great backdrop it was! We had a great time looking for places to shoot! She was a great sport and a great model! Thanks Jen, enjoy!

Jen was a champ that day because the sun was bright!

Vroom Vroom! Go girl!

I just love how the grass made a nice backdrop! Look at those eyes!

We had some fun on the lifeguard stand!
